Come And Try Day

We’re having a come and try fun day at Palacerigg Golf Club on Sunday 22nd April 2012. Come along and try golf with real clubs, real balls under the guidance of qualified P.G.A coaches.There will be 2 free sessions between 10am and 12pm or 1pm and 3pm.Golf Clubs will be available to use or if you wish bring your own .To book a session, complete the online form on our junior web site , email us at Juniors@palacerigg.co.uk or call Frank Anderson,Junior Convenor Tel—07425 173 986. Junior Coaching

Junior coaching started again this week with the return of last years young hopefuls on Tuesday 3rd May. Although sunny, a cold wind greeted them at the practice area buy most seemed to enjoy themselves.Thursday night (5th) See's a new batch of wannabe golfers start. There are still some place's left for the 1st years but they are going fast

Junior captain Liam Donnachie got the 2011 season underway,but didnt let his new post cause him concern. He took the lead in the A&B Russell Trophy with a 67, 4 shots ahead of Rhys Thomson(71) and 7 ahead of Gareth Shevlin (74). Young Gun ,Taylor Mckenna took the early lead in this years order of merit with 52 points.

Junior Convenor Wins Award

Palacerigg golf club junior convenor Frank Anderson was awarded the 'Volunteer of the Year ' for 2010 by the Scottish Golf Union, at the XOS Scottish Golf Awards held in Glasgow. This was in recognition of the work that he has done at the club, in particular in the junior section where the membership has increased by 900% in the last 3 years going from 7 in 2008 to 70 in 2010

Palacerigg juniors came up short,again, for the 2nd year running in the junior club of the year awards. Orkney took the title and the £1000 prize.2 coaches and 4 juniors went up to St Andrews for the presentation in terrible weather.They all had a great day non the less and the club receives £300 to help with junior golf at Palacerigg. Thanks to Rod Johnston who picked us up at the priority parking he got us and drove them to the tented village in the 'players' Lexus cars

Sunday 25th July and Sunday 1st August there will be no juniors due to the Am Am and Ladies Open.

On the 8th August although no competition is on normal tee times are available but you will have to organise yourself. This is due to the Club Championship Finals. If you don't want to play come along and support the 2 boys who will be in the final. Normal service will be resumed on the 15th August

Seven Scottish golf clubs have been shortlisted for the annual clubgolf Junior Club of the Year Awards.

Organised by Scotland’s national junior programme clubgolf and the Scottish Golf Union, the Awards, won in 2009 and 2008 respectively by Ranfurly Castle and Alford Golf Clubs, recognise clubs that have demonstrated excellence in promoting junior golf during 2009.

Following a thorough evaluation by clubgolf’s judging panel the final seven clubs have been narrowed down to Eyemouth (Berwickshire), Gullane GC (East Lothian), McDonald GC (Ellon, Aberdeenshire), Orkney GC, Palacerigg GC (North Lanarkshire), Powfoot GC (Dumfries & Galloway) and The Royal Montrose GC (Angus).

All seven clubs have demonstrated enormous commitment to developing their junior sections. All have adopted clubgolf programmes. Emerging out of Scotland’s successful bid to host the Ryder Cup, clubgolf is a partnership between the Scottish Golf Union, the Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association, the Professional Golfers' Association, the Golf Foundation and sportscotland.
The winning club will be announced at The Old Course, St Andrews on Wednesday 14th July, the final practice day for The Open Championship. All finalists will be invited to send two adults, and children, to The Open on this day.
The SGU will award the winning club £1,000, to be invested in its junior programme. It will also be invited to put forward a team of three adult members to play in a European Tour pro-am, playing alongside a leading professional golfer. The six runners up clubs will each receive £300 from the SGU to help develop their junior programmes.

New for 2010 is a summer league , which takes place on Tuedays and Thurdays over the school summer holidays. Meeting at 11.45am, the best 5 net scores will be the deciding factor to winning the trophy.

June started off with the Lions Club Trophy on the 6th with Junior Captain Chris MacTurk coming out on top with 69. Brian Donohoe and Liam Donnachie sharing second and third with 71

With a week off due to the muscular Dystrophy Charity Day which raised over £3500, the junior captain trophy was played with Brian Donohoe keep up his fine form winning with a 67, Cavan Reilly 3 back on 70 and Liam Donnachie 3rd on 79.

Junior membership now stands at 68. Sunday Medal Participation hase rose from an average in 2009 of 7 per medal to 14 in 2010

3 championship Qualifiers were played this month and so far the top qualifying scores are as follows

With only 2 qualifiers to go the place for the top four are wide open . W.D Bell trophy was won by Cavan Reilly with a nett 63 with Rhys Thomson 4 back on 67. Cavan folled this up by winning the Bishopbriggs Car Sales Trophy again with a 63, but this time it was a lot closer with the chasing pack seperated by one stroke each. Chris MacTurk 64, Regan Mclean 65 , and Brian Donohoe 66.

The order of merit ended may with Brian Donohoe on top with 347 points,Gareth Shevlin on 342 and Cavan Reilly on 333. Regan Mclean is 9 back on 324.

Congratulation to Gareth Shevlin who became the first junior to come out of the "Young Guns" and be promoted to the Juniors

Mclean Wins Season Opener

Regan Mclean came from nowhere with an amazing nett 53 to win the A+B Russell Trophy although it came at a price for his handicap slashing it from 43 to 30 in one fell swoop.Cavan Rielly's 60 in the 1st round seemed to mean he had just to turn up for the second round to win but no one was expecting this.The final result was

19 budding young golfers turned up at palacerigg on Sunday(11th April) for the annual come and try day. The weather stayed kind and they all seemed to enjoy themselves.The 2 hour coaching session was arrange in order to try and encourage kids to take up the 2 year coaching programme that is in place at the club.To follow this up there will be a sign up day on Sunday 18th April between 11.30 and 12.30, so anyone who missed out and is interested can still come along and join.

Juniors Recieve £5000 "Awards For All"

Palacerigg Juniors have been awarded £5000 from the National Lottery's "Awards for all"

this has enabled them to buy equipment to assist them with their coaching programme. "We have purchased some really good equipment including a 'Professional Explanar', 8 'TrueStrike' Mats which are going to be a permanent feature round at the practice area, 10 sets of junior clubs , as well as 600 balls". We have also paid for 3 coaches to complete their "level 1" PGA course

Homecoming Golf Festival

3 coaches from palacerigg were at Airdrie leisure centre to help out with the homecoming golf festival run by North lanarkshire golf development group and NL Leisure. Frank Anderson, Jean Anderson and Bob Paton were there with 200 school kids who turned up from all over the area to participate.10 golfing stations were set up including 3 Explaners, Blowup Driving range and a portable putting green.
